This is a non-merit position. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird seeks to fill anAssistant Attorney General position in the Civil Litigation Division of her office.

This lawyer will work on litigation impacting the Department of Corrections. The position requires representing the State of Iowa and Department of Corrections in litigation in federal and state district courts. Work includes constitutional issues, post-conviction relief cases involving disciplinary issues within Iowa's prisons and various administrative proceedings.

The successful applicant will be self-directed, interested in constitutional law, and have excellent research and writing skills. Prior prosecutorial or criminal defense experience would be beneficial but not required. This is a unique opportunity for specialization and courtroom experience outside of the usual litigation path.
